One of the many attractions in the area and just a short walk from Le Capinet. The earliest origins of château de Bourdeilles date back as far as the 12th century and, today, the château is a listed Historic Monument and a Major Site of Aquitaine, tracing back eight centuries of history. Located on a rocky outcrop it dominates the Dronne River in Bourdeilles. In the Middle Ages, the defensive fort of Bourdeilles was coveted by many. In an era of bloody battles and violent conflict between France and England, Bourdeilles passed from the Kingdom of France into the hands of the English Crown before being freed again by the knight, Sir Duguesclin.
